Joe Biden will be the 46th president of the United States. It never gets old to write that. However, he’s starting already on filling up his cabinet spots. And there’s a lot of old beef Biden might have the New DOT Head pick apart. The best that one can search for is an individual who can do the job well. Someone who can break down the many areas that break apart in the Department of Transportation.
Previously, the soon-to-be-former Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao had to deal with all sorts of problems. All the solutions turning out to be little to no success. From blocking sustainability efforts to screwing around with smog-filled car, she’s been a menace. Even halting what could add to the green initiative that’s so popular in the EV industry today. That said, the successor will have to look into cleaning up those quarters.
What does the New DOT Head REALLY have to worry about?
Currently, three modal agencies are likely to start a ruckus within the Department of Transportation. The FHA or the Federal Highway Administration, the NHTSA or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the FMCSA or the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. In other words, there’s enough sibling rivalry with their conflicting perspectives on travel to truly push back any progress that’s much needed in DOT-relative works.
Furthermore, possible candidates Eric Garcetti and Rahm Emanuel, both mayors, have much of the experience that it would take to suss out the mush. They want Congress to focus on infrastructure. Therefore, the top priority is met for the trucking industry. Most freight systems no matter how big the town is underfunded it seems. Luckily either leader will probably bring about some change to best assist trucking in away that can accommodate increased cargo volumes and larger classes of container ships.
