Nissan Altima 2021 and Sentra 2021 Earn Safety Awards From IIHS

Nissan Altima 2021 and Sentra 2021 Earn Safety Awards From IIHS
  • Post Category:Blogs

Nissan Altima 2021 got a 2020 Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) rating and the Nissan Sentra 2021 received a 2020 IIHS Top Safety Pick (TSP) rating. Both were due to advances in each model’s headlight technology. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave these vehicles the awards.

Approximately half of all fatal crashes in the U.S. have taken place in the dark. More than one-quarter of them has been on an unlit road. As a result of this, IIHS places a very strong focus on headlight capability when they evaluate the vehicles.

Nissan Altima Advanced Technology

The Altima brings an impressive level of advanced carmakers Intelligent Mobility technology to its segment. This is in line with the all-new 2020 Versa and Sentra, as well as the flagship Maxima. This includes available Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, ProPILOT Assist2, and Nissan Safety Shield 360 technologies. It comes with High Beam Assist as standard equipment, Altima earns the TSP+ distinction. Each year since 2013, Altima has earned the IIHS TSP or TSP+ award.

Improvements to Headlights

Nissan made additional improvements to the optional thin projector LED headlights offered on the Nissan Sentra SV trim with Premium Package (the model year 2020) and SR trim with Premium Package (the model year 2020 and 2021) in September.

In September, the carmaker made additional improvements to the optional thin projector LED headlights offered on the Sentra SV trim with Premium Package (the model year 2020). As well as the SR trim with Premium Package (model years 2020 and 2021).  Both 2020 models built after the upgrade, and 2021 Sentra models. They now qualify for Top Safety Pick when equipped with those headlights. The Sentra is packed with the most standard safety technology in its class with standard Nissan Safety Shield 360 across all trims.

Safety Shield 360

Nissan will offer Safety Shield 360 as standard equipment on 10 models in 2021, said Jared Haslam, vice president, product planning, Nissan U.S. and Canada. The advanced driver assistance systems can help significantly reduce crashes. Throughout our lineup, we are working to make these technologies available. The Altima and Sentra are recognized by IIHS and its rigorous testing criteria, and we are proud to see that for both.
